Original Painting

This is the second painting in my "Fairy Wrens of Australia" series. It features a female Spendid Fairy Wren (Malurus splendens) launching into flight. Splendid Fairy Wrens can commonly be found in arid & semi-arid areas of central New South Wales, southwestern Queensland and over to Western Australia. Male Fairy Wrens pluck pink or purple petals and display them to females as part of a courtship display. Non-breeding males, females and juveniles are predominantly grey-brown in colour, whereas breeding males are mostly blue with a little black.
