This is the third painting in my "Fairy Wrens of Australia" series. It features a male Superb Fairy Wren (Malurus cyaneus) perched on an Australian native shrub. These delightful little birds charm backyards and gardens throughout Southeastern Australia. Adult male breeding Superb fairy wrens are amoung the most brightly coloured of the species, especially during breeding season, with a bright blue and black plumage. Males from further inland and in the south west of the range have more blue on their back and underneath.
